California Academy of Science
|
The California Academy of Science reopens its doors in Golden Gate Park (just a few blocks
from our apartment) on
September 27, 2008. Designed by star-chitect Renzo Piano, whose significant
buildings includes the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the New York
Times building in Manhattan. The Academy houses an aquarium, a natural
history museum and planetarium, all under one GREEN roof! As part of their
opening weekend celebration, there will be live music and performances out
on the music concourse. Great for kids, the museum includes lots of live animals (including penguins!)
and a simulated walk-through rain forest.
Entrance into the Academy will be FREE on Saturday,
so expect long queues. Advance ticket purchase is STRONGLY encouraged if
visiting the California Academy of Science on Sunday morning.

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
|
San Francisco enjoys a worldwide reputation as a center of culture, but unfortunately there aren't too many impressive
museums in the city. SFMoMa, as it's known, offers a rare exception with a variety of interesting, innovative
and sometimes outlandish art. During our commitment dinner weekend, SFMoMa will feature exhibitions on
the interplay between light and art and
the rapid expansion of
Las Vegas (really).

Contemporary Jewish Museum
|
The Contemporary Jewish Museum is just a few blocks away from SFMoMa. It's San Francisco's newest museum, recently
opening the doors to its new building designed by A-list architect Daniel Libeskind (who is also designing the new
World Trade Center in New York). Frankly, we haven't been to the museum yet, but the town is buzzing about it. If
we get a chance to go before September 28, we'll update this page.

Folsom Street Fair
|
NOT FOR KIDS. San Francisco's world-famous leather festival -- the original one. We have been precisely once, because
we were curious to see what it was all about. We're glad we did -- it was an interesting experience -- but
it's not for everyone.
